Our Mission

The Garner Area Historical Society is a non-profit organization, staffed by volunteers. We are dedicated to preserving the history of Garner, North Carolina, and nearby crossroads; educating youth; and promoting Garner's story in and outside the community.

Garner's Station

The community of Garner's Station received a post office in 1878 and was incorporated in 1883. For an unknown reason, the community had its charter repealed in 1891, but in 1905, the charter was reinstated as the Town of Garner.

Henry Fort

In 1874, Henry Fort, an African American farmer, cabinetmaker, and carpenter, purchased 52 acres on the north side of the railroad near Hayes Chapel Church. Known for his fine carpentry, he sold much of his land to other African Americans.
